Incredible Travel Ideas and Experiences within Canada

Updated: Mar 8, 2021

Knowing that 2021 will be full of uncertainty surrounding international travel, we believe focusing on exploring Canada will be incredibly rewarding, as we are fortunate to live in such a beautiful and diverse country. We wanted to share some of our favourite spots for luxurious wilderness getaways in Canada. Many people may not have even heard of these gems, but we are proud partners with them, and they all offer world-class experiences.

Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge, Vancouver Island, BC

In one sentence: An all-inclusive wilderness retreat with safari-chic tents, gourmet meals and guided outdoor activities.

Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge sits amongst the lush coastal rainforest of remote Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Surrounded by the UNESCO listed Clayoquot Sound Biosphere, and bordering the pristine Strathcona Provincial Park, the 600 acre property sits at the head of the Bedwell River making it an ideal location to explore the wilds of the Island. Inaccessible by car, the lodge is reached by a 45-minute seaplane flight from Vancouver, or 35-minute boat ride from Tofino. *Exclusive perk - complimentary seaplane transfers for Canadian residents for 2021 bookings only*

Twenty-five luxuriously appointed white canvas tents line the banks of the magnificent Clayoquot Sound and are dotted among the region’s pristine old growth temperate rainforest. Recently taken over by Baillie Lodges (who are a part of the Luxury Lodges of Australia collective.) the tent interiors will be reimagined in time for the 2021 season, with a fresh new contemporary look with signature clean lines, specially commissioned furnishings from local designers and end-of-the-bed views which evoke a personal connection with the Vancouver Island landscape.

Fully inclusive to a premium, your glamping experience includes a generous spirit of hospitality with locally sourced and an innovative culinary experience. We work with you and the property to craft a personalised itinerary of signature adventures, Clayoquot offers guests an essential experience of this extraordinary destination. Fill your days with exploration of their old growth forest: guided hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, archery, rock climbing and kayaking. Embrace the local indigenous culture and then jump in a zodiac in search of black bears, humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, bald eagles and sea otters. These experiences are included in the tariff and are provided on an intimate shared basis with fellow guests at scheduled times.

The resort is usually open May-Oct annually. You can stay on a 3 night, 4 night and 7 night package (arrivals on Sundays and Thursdays) and rejuvenate your soul and inspire your senses. Prices start from $1,400 per person per night.

Perks of booking your stay here with Wells Luxury Travel Advisors:

Churchill Wild specializes in unique, on the ground, wildlife viewing experiences from their four remote Eco-Lodges - Seal River Heritage Lodge, Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge, and Dymond Lake Eco-Lodge. The Lodges set the scene for an experience that is refreshingly different from the typical Churchill package and their safaris give guests the opportunity to walk with polar bears and the area wildlife. The owners are committed to sustainable tourism, and environmentally friendly practices are always employed. Each lodge accommodates a maximum of 16 people/8 rooms making for an intimate experience with plenty of outdoor space.

Enjoy and photograph the wonders of the area and be immersed in the beauty of such a wild place on earth! Their one-of-a-kind excursions are done primarily on foot and you can expect to cover roughly 8-10 kilometers each day (maybe more on some departures), split into morning and afternoon treks. Their walks are comfortably paced, done as a group, and led by our highly trained guides. A moderate level of fitness is important as some terrain can be challenging. Heading out on excursions ensures guests fully experience our remote location, though if you wish, you may stay behind at the lodge and enjoy any wildlife opportunities that present themselves.

Your stay is based on an all-inclusive package, which combines delectable, tundra-inspired meals, expert naturalist guides, family-run service, and world-class wildlife viewing. The lodges are only accessible by flying, and the packages are inclusive from Winnipeg, to make for a seamless experience.

For a truly unforgettable encounter, hop in a Zodiac to witness the beluga migration in Hudson Bay and sing along with these canaries of the sea. And after the adrenaline recedes from your various breathtaking encounters, kick back by the fire and pour yourself a tipple. Gaze upon the Aurora Borealis, and commune with the spirit of the great white North.

Wildlife you can often see includes: polar bears, foxes, caribou, wolves, and over 100 species of birds. The thrall of exotic creatures delights all nature lovers.

Activities include: tundra trekking, marine excursions, whale watching, ATV tours, fly-fishing, northern lights viewing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing (March only). They also offer a "Wildlife and Wellness safari" we love, with lots of walking in the fresh Arctic air; yoga, massages and more.

Churchill Wild offers a variety of different itineraries and the lodges are operational in March and then July-November every year. Trips are usually around a week long and price averages to about $1,500 CAD per person per day (+ taxes). Children 12 and under receive a 10% discount.
